BTW - you might note during the video on CNN, the police officer when asked to comment on the state of the 14 year old's health he says he doesn't know "how the young man is." I wager if the victim was female he wouldn't have hesitated to call her a girl.

I really have mixed opinions on this kind of thing. OOH, these kinds of relationships just strike me as wrong. OTOH, I can't clearly define *why* they strike me that way. Aside from the cheating thing (or worse, getting pregnant), at what age do we consider it to be a lack of consent?
We dance around the consent problem by not dropping the hammer on a couple of 15 year olds screwing, but when one of them is 18 (or older) suddenly it's rape. So, what's changed in those couple of years? Likewise, we're applauding "cougars" who manage to grab and keep men 10 or 15 years younger. So, why do we squirm when a 30 yo shags a 15 yo?
I was just thinking that in high school, there were a handful of teachers that I would have *loved* to have taught me a few things not in the curriculum.
You've got to admit every 14 year old boys fantasize about having sex with a hot woman.
But all jokes aside... well yes, it's pretty messed up if she's married with 3 kids and all that.
Psst... 6th grade Tom - not High School. So yah, that's pretty much spot on as a short sighted kind of asshat comment I'm talking about.
And yes, I had an attractive 8th grade French teacher, and a pretty hot business law teacher in 11th grade... so I understand the fantasy.
But fantasy is not reality.
As to your question about why it's wrong - that takes two levels for me:
1) She has violated her oath to her husband and it's simple cheating.
2) She has taken advantage of someone who is not emotionally prepared to deal with the consequences of the actions.
She's done that in two ways. First - she has accepted a role of responsibility as a teacher, and he was her student. A 6th grader no less.
I consider the age of consent laws for each area to be sufficiently defined and discussed. I know the rules are different in one country or state to another, but the law is quite clear that a 14 year old in California is considered a child with regards to a 32 to year old. How it stands with a 15 year old and a 14 year old is not the issue here.
I don't think "we dance" that way. Different areas have different rules, based on local customs, understandings and limitations - and other areas have allowances. I'm no expert on it, but I know that some (most?) states have a 2 year window. If one is 18 and the other 16, then it's ok... 19-17 too.
Ultimately though, all of that really is not the point of my original blog post, which was regarding the sexual inequality of the event.
Had a 32 year old man teacher, with a wife and family gone and molested a 6th grade girl (or boy) repeatedly over 6 months... what kind of sentence would you be expecting to get handed down? What kind of sentence would you want?
And yet, in our society - if the woman who abuses the child is attractive, the law punishes with sentences such as: 45 days in prison; 5 years probation - no prison; etc.
And that's just simple inequality.
FYI - when the woman is unattractive, the sentences are much stricter on average.
I wonder if there's any correlation between the kinds of pleas male vs female prosecutors approve in these cases, or the kinds of sentances male vs female judges hand down.

When I was a much younger man (but had reached the age of consent) that older women hit on me at times. Once a college professor. She was drunk out of her gourd. I'm proud to say that I never took advantage of anyones impaired judgement.

I don't know. I was sexually active at 14. Seduction at the hands of an attractive older female (teacher or otherwise) would have been a dream come true for me. The teacher fantasy specifically was really hot for me back then and was a staple for most of my early BDSM fantasies. In fact all of my early role play scenarios involved a female teacher at a boarding school subjecting me to corporal punishment and sexual domination. Come to think of it I even acted those out with an older woman! Yeah o.k. it was D. She was 15! ;-)
At the same time your point is well taken. At what point should we separate fantasy from reality? What is the emotional and psychological fallout from a relationship like that for the teenager? What are the ramifications for the family of the teacher? How humiliating must it be for the husband and kids when it is found out and let's face it these things are ALWAYS discovered eventually!
Nothing is simple that's for sure and yeah there is certainly a double standard where statutory rape is concerned. Are we too strict as a society or too permissive? Is is natural for older partners to initiate younger conquests? Could that ever be o.k. if both partners consent? It's a deep and fascinating subject and should not be brushed aside with a nod and a wink.
Oh yeah forgot to mention...I ended up marrying a teacher! Mom was one too! Do we see a pattern forming here? ;-)

When i was in 5th grade (10yo) i was in love with my teacher. When one of my friends told him that i wanted to marry him his response was to ask me where i would sleep because i wouldn't fit in the bed with him and his wife.

HMP: if they were both single I'd say it's tougher call. If she wasn't his teacher I'd say it's a tougher call. But she was his teacher, and she is married, with 3 kids. It's just absurd to me. So selfish, so unjustifiable.
And FWIW, I come from a long family history of teachers, perhaps that's why I find it so offensive.
